From the moment Christian and Kaylie first reached out to me, I had a feeling their Watkins Glen elopement was going to be something truly special.
They had never visited the Finger Lakes before, but that was part of what made this adventure so meaningful to them. They wanted their wedding day to feel like an experience they could fully share together, discovering a brand new place side by side while creating memories that would forever tie them to it.
And honestly, I absolutely loved that.
Their plan was beautifully intentional from the start. They rented a cozy Airbnb right along Seneca Lake and envisioned a quiet sunrise ceremony before spending the rest of the day exploring waterfalls, scenic overlooks, vineyards, and all the incredible beauty the Finger Lakes region has to offer.
It was the perfect recipe for an unforgettable Watkins Glen elopement.
There’s something incredibly unique about planning a Watkins Glen elopement. Between the towering waterfalls, dramatic stone gorges, peaceful lake views, and charming wineries scattered throughout the Finger Lakes, the area feels like something straight out of a storybook.
For adventurous couples who want a wedding day that feels relaxed, intimate, and full of meaningful experiences, Watkins Glen offers so much more than just a ceremony location. It allows couples to truly turn their wedding day into an adventure together.
Whether you’re exchanging vows at sunrise on Seneca Lake, hiking through Watkins Glen State Park, or ending the evening sipping wine overlooking the water, every part of the experience feels intentional and romantic.
Christian and Kaylie embraced every bit of that magic.

The morning of their Watkins Glen elopement began long before sunrise.
If you’re dreaming about a sunrise ceremony for your own elopement, one thing to know is that early wake up calls are definitely part of the adventure. But honestly, it’s so worth it. Sunrise ceremonies offer fewer crowds, more privacy, and a peaceful atmosphere that feels incredibly intimate.
That morning was cool, calm, and completely silent as I arrived at their Airbnb on Seneca Lake.
Christian and Kaylie were already awake getting ready for the happiest day of their lives. The energy inside the Airbnb felt slow and intentional. Nothing was rushed. There was no pressure. Just quiet excitement and anticipation for the day ahead.

I started the morning by capturing all the thoughtful details they had brought along. Kaylie especially had packed so many fun and meaningful props that made their detail photos feel even more personal and unique to them.
One of my favorite parts of the morning was watching them help each other get ready.
Christian carefully zipped up Kaylie’s dress while she helped pin on his boutonnière. They each took a few quiet moments to finish writing their vows before it was finally time to head out onto the dock for their sunrise ceremony.

The Airbnb they rented had its own private dock, and honestly it could not have been a more perfect ceremony location for their Watkins Glen elopement.
Even better, the property faced east, meaning the sunrise would happen directly behind them as they exchanged vows.
We walked out onto the dock together while the world was still waking up around us. Christian and Kaylie stood together quietly, taking in the emotions of the moment while waiting for the first signs of light to appear across the lake.

Then suddenly, the sky exploded with color.
The sunrise that morning felt absolutely magical, like it had shown up specifically for them.
As the light slowly washed across the water, they began exchanging vows and rings. The way Kaylie looked at Christian throughout the ceremony was something I’ll never forget. Her eyes were completely filled with joy, emotion, and excitement for the life they were about to begin together.
When they shared their first kiss as husband and wife on that dock overlooking Seneca Lake, it felt like time completely slowed down.
And somehow, that was only the beginning of their wedding day adventure.
Once we packed up the car and gathered everything we needed for the day, we made our way over to Watkins Glen State Park.
If you’ve never experienced Watkins Glen before, it honestly feels like stepping into another world.
We began at the top of the gorge and slowly worked our way down toward the roaring waterfalls below. Kaylie described it perfectly when she said it felt like walking into a fairytale.
The towering stone walls completely surround you as you move through the gorge, while the sound of rushing water echoes throughout the park. Everywhere you look feels surreal.

We took our time exploring and capturing portraits throughout the trail, stopping often to soak in the scenery. Even the few early morning hikers we passed along the way couldn’t help but stop and congratulate them as they walked by.
Eventually, we made our way down to Glen Cathedral, one of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the entire park.
Watching the water rush through, under, and above the stone pathways was absolutely incredible. The scale of it all was hard to put into words, and it created some truly unforgettable photos that I know Christian and Kaylie will treasure forever.

One of my favorite moments from the entire day happened on our way back up the gorge.
There’s a staircase carved directly into the rock foundation, and seeing Kaylie walk up those steps with her dress flowing behind her honestly looked like something straight out of a fantasy movie. As she reached back for Christian while leading him up the stairs, it created one of my favorite images from their entire Watkins Glen elopement.

By the time we reached the top of the gorge again, we were definitely feeling the uphill hike back out.
So naturally, it was time to slow things down a little.
We headed over to Watkins Glen Beach for some quieter lakeside portraits and a chance to simply relax together for a bit. The slower pace gave Christian and Kaylie time to breathe, reflect, and really soak in everything they had already experienced together that morning.

Then came one of the most important stops of the day.
Ben & Jerry’s.
Without question, we were their first customers of the morning, and the employees were so excited seeing Kaylie walk in wearing her wedding dress. We shared laughs, enjoyed some amazing ice cream, and took a moment to appreciate just how fun and intentional their wedding day felt.

After our ice cream break, we continued east toward Taughannock Falls State Park for the next part of their Watkins Glen elopement adventure.
Taughannock Falls is absolutely massive, plunging 215 feet down into the gorge below. Seeing Christian and Kaylie’s reactions when they first walked up to the overlook was so fun to witness. They were completely blown away by the scale and beauty of it.

We explored the overlook, walked down for closer portraits, and spent time simply letting them enjoy the view together before continuing on toward our final destination of the evening.

If you know anything about the Finger Lakes region, you probably already know it’s famous for its wineries.
There are countless vineyards scattered around Seneca Lake, which can honestly feel a little overwhelming when trying to decide where to go. Thankfully, I was able to help narrow things down based on their tastes and the overall vibe they wanted for the evening.
We eventually landed on Atwater Vineyard, and it ended up being the perfect way to end their wedding day.
On the drive there, we hit an unexpected road construction detour that forced us to reroute. But honestly, sometimes the unplanned moments end up becoming the best ones.
The detour led us down this stunning road lined with colorful fall foliage, and because we weren’t on a tight timeline, we pulled over to take advantage of it.
The photos we captured there were some of the most joyful of the entire day. You could see exactly how much fun they were having together.

Once we arrived at Atwater Vineyard, everything slowed down beautifully. With west facing views overlooking Seneca Lake, delicious wine, and an incredible cheese board, it felt like the perfect ending to an already unforgettable day.
Kaylie kept laughing and saying, “Gouda is good,” which honestly became one of the running jokes of the evening.
We captured a few final portraits of them enjoying the vineyard together, including one of Christian dipping his beautiful bride while overlooking the lake.
It was simple, joyful, and completely them.

One of the best compliments I’ve ever received from a couple was this:
“It felt like hanging out with a friend and experiencing these amazing places together on the day we got married.”
Honestly, that’s exactly how I want every couple to feel during their wedding day.
Your Watkins Glen elopement doesn’t need to feel rushed, stressful, or overly posed. It can feel like an adventure filled with amazing views, meaningful moments, good vibes, and experiences you’ll remember forever.
Whether that means sunrise vows on Seneca Lake, hiking through waterfalls, stopping for ice cream in your wedding attire, or ending the night sipping wine overlooking the Finger Lakes, your wedding day should feel unapologetically true to you.
