Zach and Brittany’s Maine coastal elopement was the perfect reminder that your wedding day can be whatever you’d like it to be. Their day was filled with laughter, quiet moments, emotional vows, and incredible scenery that felt straight out of a movie. From a moody first look on the rocky coast to celebrating with champagne and fishing rods after saying “I do,” their day was beautifully personal from beginning to end.
The morning of Zach and Brittany’s Maine coastal elopement began under soft overcast skies in Bar Harbor. As a photographer, I absolutely love weather like this because it creates beautifully soft light and gives photos that cinematic moody feel that works so perfectly with Acadia’s rugged coastline.
Brittany started her morning getting her hair done at Echo Salon while Zach and I set off on a completely unexpected little side quest. He had forgotten to pack a belt, which of course is not exactly a small detail when you’re about to get married in a suit.
Thankfully, Bar Harbor came through.
We made our way to Cadillac Mountain Sports, one of those local shops that seems to have everything an outdoorsy person could need. Zach found the perfect functional belt, but being a knife collector, he also enjoyed spending a little time checking out their collection while we were there.
When we checked back in, Brittany still needed a bit more time getting ready. I could tell Zach was feeling some nerves about the day, especially being in front of the camera. That’s honestly super normal, especially for couples who don’t spend much time having professional photos taken.
Instead of forcing the timeline, I suggested we head across the street to a local pub for a drink.
It ended up being one of the best calls of the day.
That little pause gave us time to connect, laugh, and simply slow things down. By the time we left, Zach felt far more relaxed and ready for the adventure ahead. That’s one of the beautiful things about elopements. They leave room for spontaneity and real moments instead of feeling like every second has to be tightly scheduled.
Their first look took place at Otter Point, one of my favorite locations for a Maine coastal elopement in Acadia.
If you’ve never been there, picture dramatic rocky cliffs, endless ocean views, and the kind of rugged Maine coastline that makes you stop and just take it all in.
Because Brittany wanted the first look to remain a surprise, Zach followed behind in his own car while she stayed hidden. Once we arrived, Zach changed into his suit and I walked him into position overlooking the coast.
Before I bring couples together for a first look, I always like to ground the moment emotionally. I told Zach to think about their first date, their first kiss, and every adventure that had brought them to this exact day.

Then Brittany walked over and gently tapped him on the shoulder.
The second Zach turned around, his entire expression changed. His face completely lit up seeing his bride for the first time, and it was such a genuinely emotional moment to witness.
I stepped back and let them soak it all in while quietly documenting everything from a distance. No interruptions. No forced posing. Just the two of them fully present with each other.

As we explored the coastline afterward, the weather shifted in the most beautiful way. Instead of rain, a soft mist began rolling across the ocean, creating the dreamiest moody atmosphere imaginable. It gave the entire coastline this cinematic feel and somehow made it feel like they had Acadia all to themselves.
Before their ceremony, Zach and Brittany wanted a quiet moment to write their personal vows together.
Standing along the rugged shoreline with the cool ocean breeze washing over them, they took time to reflect, write, and simply be present together.
This is one of the reasons I love elopements so much. There’s space for moments like this. Traditional wedding timelines often move quickly from one event to the next, but an Acadia National Park Elopement allows couples to slow down and actually experience their day.

Once they finished writing, we continued the adventure and made our way over to Otter Cove.
The scenery there felt completely different from Otter Point. Instead of dramatic cliffs, they were surrounded by softer shoreline, sandy textures, and the iconic bridge that gives the area such a storybook feel.
The photos we captured here honestly felt like scenes from a fairytale. Zach and Brittany were completely immersed in the moment, laughing together and taking in the scenery. Just genuine joy.

For their ceremony, Zach and Brittany chose Little Hunters Beach, one of Acadia’s hidden gems and an incredible ceremony location for couples planning a Maine coastal elopement.
Little Hunters Beach is made up of smooth pebbles that create the most peaceful sound as waves roll in. It’s intimate, quiet, and feels incredibly secluded.
When we arrived, we made our way down the stairs to the shoreline, where the moment they had been waiting for had finally arrived.

They looked at each other and immediately started laughing.
Who was going first?
Zach stepped up first, sharing heartfelt vows and promises to love Brittany for the rest of his life. Brittany followed with vows that were equally emotional but also hilariously funny in moments, making Zach laugh.
That balance of sincerity and playfulness felt so perfectly them.
After exchanging rings, vows, and promises, they shared their first kiss as husband and wife surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the ocean.
It was simple, emotional, and absolutely beautiful.

After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate.
Zach and Brittany popped champagne on the coast, and we all shared a quick celebratory toast before heading off for even more adventure portraits.
One of my favorite things about elopements is encouraging couples to bring parts of their personality into the day. Your wedding photos should feel like you, not like a styled shoot pretending to be your life.
Zach and Brittany are avid fishers, so they brought fishing rods along for portraits on the rocky coast.
It ended up being one of the most fun parts of the day.
One of my favorite images from their gallery is Zach pretending to reel Brittany in as the “best catch of his life.” It was playful, authentic, and such a perfect reflection of who they are together.

To close out their adventure, we made one final stop along Park Loop Road.
Zach was incredibly proud of his custom Subaru Outback, and I always tell my couples that if something meaningful is part of your story, we should absolutely include it.

We captured some fun motion shots with the car, a few portraits beneath the nearby bridge, and finished with one final image of them sharing a kiss inside the Subaru as their Acadia adventure came to a close.
Honestly, it was the perfect ending.
If Zach and Brittany’s story has inspired you, your wedding day can look however you want it to.
Slow mornings in Bar Harbor. Emotional first looks on the coast. Private vows in the mist. Pebble beach ceremonies. Champagne celebrations. Fishing rods. Road trip vibes.
That’s the beauty of planning an Acadia National Park Elopement. It becomes less about tradition and more about creating an experience that feels true to your relationship.
If that sounds like exactly what you’ve been dreaming about, I’d love to help you plan and document every incredible moment.
